Na wekenlang niet spelen; ‘the veterans need 15 minutes to wake up their legs and shake off the dust’

8 degrees and the sun in the face, an ideal afternoon for football. In the dressing room the atmosphere was already optimistic about returning to the competition. The start was explosive, both teams created their chances and the midfield was very competitive.

The first 15 minutes served to wake up the legs and to shake off the dust of not playing for weeks. The first clear chance arrives! Jan received the ball in front of the goalkeeper and failed to score, the goalkeeper did a very good cover of the goal. Pancratius had a very good chance, a man ran alone to goal.

But our top goalkeeper Arnaud stopped the ball and kept the score 0-0. 5 minutes later, after a couple of corners showed that we had the best chance to dominate the game. And the goal came after a split ball in the goal area, Ed controlled the ball well and shot far of the goalkeeper. 1-0

The second half showed the physical condition of each team, the pace slowed down but our changes pushed the control of the game. The midfield was ours. Remko, Jan, Nacho, Dolf, Arjen, Ed, Luis, all created chances but there was always a leg or the goalkeeper that prevented us from scoring again. 10 corner kicks, more than 20 missed opportunities, a ball in the post and a non-existent offside left the final score 1 – 0.

Just a perfect celebration for the return to the competition and the birthday of good old Drikus. Beer in the hand of course.
